Wine Tasting Event

Trader Joes has a wonderful wine selection, and at reasonable prices!  Before purchasing a large quantity, I decided to have a party to hone in on a few reds and whites.

The reds were Vintjs Pino Noir, La Finca Malbec and Pontificis Grenache Syrah.  All three were a hit!

The whites were Santa Barbara Chardonnay, La Granja Verdejo Viura and Villa Borghetti Pinot Grigio.  The Pinot won hands down.  The Chard was good for the price and La Granja went down like water, perhaps good for a hot summers day!

We shared a variety of small plates to cleanse the palate in between tastings. Beginning with Vinegar/Sea Salt  peanuts – Virginia of course – these brought an initial burst of vinegar, then onto the peanut flavor.

Especially for the reds, chocolate deemed appropriate along with dried cherries.

These tarts are a treat – made of diced apple, caramelized shallot and apricot stilton cheese.

With the leftover tart filling, I stuffed some green bell peppers fresh from our gardens.  The two larger peppers were stuffed with herbed goat cheese, fresh chives and chopped zucchini!

The herbed goat cheese paired well with fresh sliced garden zucchini too!

…and then came the fried green tomatoes with garden fresh marinara sauce!

Oh…and home made pesto too!

Our group started on a Sunday at 4:30pm, running into dinner time, so we concluded with my garden roasted eggplant, tomatoes and parmesan polenta.

Speaking of corn…can you guess the next Ingredient of the Week???
